The airline Flights Grounded Across the US Due to Technical Failure

Alaska Airlines grounded flights because of IT outage

Alaska Airlines grounded flights at all US airports on Thursday due to a technical issue.

The US carrier announced that it was "facing an system disruption affecting flight schedules" and issued "an operational pause."

The carrier did not say the duration the disruption would continue or how many flights were affected. It said it was "working to resume our services" after the outage.

The operational halt also impacted Horizon Air, which is operated by Alaska Airlines, as per an advisory by the Federal Aviation Administration.

The airline, part of The Alaska Air Group based in the Pacific Northwest, mainly serves on the western seaboard of the United States. It connects 140 destinations worldwide, including 37 states and 12 countries, as stated on its website.

Last year, the carrier joined forces with Hawaiian Airlines, which was unaffected by Thursday's ground stop.

It is the latest technical failure impacting the carrier this year. In July, an issue halted flights for about three hours.

Alaska Airlines did not immediately respond on Thursday to media inquiries.

US air travel has been disrupted in the past few weeks due to the US government shutdown that started earlier this month. Shortage of flight controllers showing up for work has delayed flights at multiple locations.
