The artist has donated the full amount of his £25,000 award winnings to the MVT, which functions to preserve the Britain's small live music spots.

Fender was awarded the prize on October 16 as his third album People Watching was chosen as the top album of the previous year.

Fender has opted to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the essential function small stages fulfilled in his early career.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the shows I did around the North East, and further afield, when I was starting out," said Sam Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these locations have permanently closed – about 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by adding a small levy to their ticket prices, which goes to help independent venues.

Sam Fender also joined in, generating more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to support thirty-eight small stages across the UK.

The donation assisted locations that were facing possible closure due to difficulties caused by floods, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and sound issues.

Additional spaces received financial assistance in modernizing infrastructure and gear that helped artists and audiences.

"The idea that funds from concerts in big venues supports the smaller venues, where it begins for artists like me, is just logical," the star has stated.

Fender is not the first artist to donate his honor winnings to good deeds.

When the band earned the award in 1996 for their record Different Class, frontman the singer announced that the group would donate their prize money to the charity the charity.

During 2002, musician the artist shared her bounty between multiple charities, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I contributed a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they required new equipment," she shared with the media.

Previously, they gave their funds to the community center that nurtured their band, alongside other local music groups.

And winners that year the group contributed their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was found to have the disease.

"Winning was quite enough," said singer Small. "The money was the extra but we could do without the extra, because we had the honor. So our winning affected somebody else's life."

In the past week, the MVT shared it had protected two local spots in south-east England, by transferring them to local control.

One venue in that area and the second in that location were bought under the public acquisition program, which is funded by a national body and music fans who buy "ownership units" in the buildings.
